Apprenticeships for the Public Sector

The majority of our apprentices work within the public sector. We have a strong track record in helping central and local government, NHS, police forces, ambulance services, fire services and other public bodies, including the House of Commons, develop their staff.

It works. Achievement rates are well above the national average and nearly two-thirds of completions are graded distinction!

Our range of apprenticeships is divided into two portfolios: Communication, Content and Marketing (CCM) and Public Sector Professions. The CCM standards are perhaps the most comprehensive in the country, spanning entry-level to manager-level courses.

The Public Sector Professions group includes potentially transformative apprenticeships. Numerous case studies demonstrate how apprentices at all levels have used their new learning to transform their work, save public money and, in some cases, even change the way they view the world outside work!

We are the official provider of communications apprenticeships to the Government Communication Service and a recommended supplier of policy officer apprenticeships across central government.

Because many of these apprenticeships are very niche, we are often the market leader.

Delivery Model

JGA’s approach involves regular full-day or half-day seminars delivered live online to small groups, supplemented by round tables, expert coaching and pastoral support. Our team comprises skilled professionals in their fields who often continue to work within their specialism.

We work closely with line managers to support the planning and organisation of in-work aspects of apprenticeships, ensuring that the impact is high

What Does it Cost and How Can I Order?

For large organisations (with a pay bill of over £3 million), apprenticeship training can be fully funded through the Apprenticeship Levy. We are listed on most major public sector procurement frameworks, including the Crown Commercial Service, Civil Service Apprenticeship Unit (for comms and policy), YPO and many others.

For smaller organisations:

  • The Government funds 95% of the training cost. (This amounts to £10,450 for the PR & Communications apprenticeship, for example).
  • 100% of the costs can be Government funded if your organisation has fewer than 50 employees and you are hiring a 16-18 year old apprentice. (This amounts to £11,000 Government funding for the PR & Communications apprenticeship, for example).

Plus there is an increasingly valuable exemption from Employers’ Class 1 National Insurance Contributions for newly recruited apprentices aged under 25.

What People Say About Us

Ofsted rates The JGA Group as a good provider. In July 2023 100% of apprentices told us that seminars were excellent or good.

I really enjoyed my apprenticeship and learnt so much about marketing which I have been able to apply in my job. The apprenticeship has helped me to improve my project management skills and write effective marketing plans that align with my organisation’s goals and mission. The apprenticeship has given me a lot of confidence and skills that I can use in my future career.

Marketing Executive Apprentice, Solent NHS Trust

I think it would be impossible to learn this in an academic scenario without having hands on work experience. I’ve also learnt things that are outside our sector and I think you probably become better at comms because you have a better knowledge of the wider industry. The sessions have been really enjoyable. My tutor is very knowledgeable. Learning things then being able to apply it to the role is the best part.
