Level 4 | Duration: 16 months

NEW course for individuals looking to build a career in sustainability, social impact and corporate responsibility across public, private and third-sector organisations. Suitable for both existing employees changing roles and new recruits.

Sustainability & Social Impact Practitioners help organisations create positive environmental and social impact by driving initiatives such as carbon reduction, community engagement, local education, skills & employment initiatives, employee volunteering, diversity and inclusion, wellbeing and ethical business practices.

Our apprentices are taught by real practitioners with both experience and enthusiasm. They combine coaching skills with the ability to hold their own in any setting.

Sustainability & Social Value Practitioner

Who is this apprenticeship for?

Sustainability & Social Impact Practitioners work across public, private and third-sector organisations to help deliver corporate responsibility, environmental sustainability and social value outcomes. They act as a “social conscience” within organisations, supporting initiatives that improve environmental performance, strengthen communities and embed ethical, inclusive and responsible business practices.

The apprenticeship has been designed for entry-level, hybrid or developing roles across ALL sectors and actively supports cross-sector working. As well as existing staff stepping into sustainability, ESG or social value responsibilities it is suitable for both new recruits and internal talent development.

Typical job titles include: Community Investment Coordinator, Corporate Citizenship Administrator, Responsible Business Coordinator, Social Impact Administrator, Sustainability Coordinator, ESG Administrator, Philanthropy Coordinator, Social Value Coordinator and Socio-Economic Development Coordinator.

By the end of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will be able to:

  • Design, support and deliver sustainability and social value initiatives
  • Engage and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Plan and deliver projects that create measurable environmental and social impact
  • Apply ethical decision-making in organisational and operational contexts
  • Support sustainability governance and responsible business practices
  • Collect, analyse and report data to demonstrate impact and performance
  • Work across sectors to drive environmental and social change

Apprentices will also benefit from free membership of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (ICRS) during the programme, with eligibility to progress to Associate and Fellow status on completion.

Communications Apprentice

The course

The training element of the course takes 12 months, followed by a 4 month assessment period.

The programme:

  • Develops practical sustainability and social value skills in live workplace roles
  • Supports delivery of real environmental, social and ESG-related projects
  • Strengthens sustainability governance, ethical business practice and impact measurement
  • Builds capability in cross-sector collaboration and stakeholder engagement
  • Develops skills in data, reporting and communicating environmental and social impact
  • Is delivered fully online with structured seminars, workshops and roundtables
  • Includes regular workplace mini-projects to apply learning in real time

The qualification awarded will be the Level 4 Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Practitioner.

  • Working with key stakeholders to foster collaboration, align on priorities and create impactful initiatives

Leading projects for impactful change

  • Project management methods to drive impactful sustainability outcomes
  • Ethical project management – moving beyond time, cost, and scope to include impact, equity, and sustainability

Harnessing data and use of AI in driving sustainable impact

  • Data management, data analysis and the application of emerging technologies to measure and improve performance  

Making the case for social value

  • Understanding the UK Green Book and TOMS frameworks and how to apply these effectively in commissioning and procurement 

Social value workshop – Designing Cross-Sectoral Interventions

  • A practical workshop on designing a cross-sectoral social value proposition and community intervention, involving managing the partnership engagement and development process 
  • Renewable energy and workplace adoption
  • The role of fair, inclusive energy transition strategies 
  • Carbon emissions and net zero strategies
  • How to reduce carbon impact across organisations.
  • Reaching net zero goals on time and on budget.
