Completing your apprenticeship

Gateway to completion

Once you’ve completed your on programme training you will go through gateway to completion. This is where we agree with you and your line manager that you have acquired the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard and are ready to undertake your final assessment.

Apprenticeship assessment

Apprenticeship assessment is the process for you to demonstrate that you have acquired the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSB’s) set out in the apprenticeship standard.

The assessment will be carried out by an impartial Assessment Organisation, which takes responsibility for the assessment of the apprentice against the requirements of their standard.

Your assessment

During your assessment you will complete the following:

20 Multiple choice questions which will consist of:

  • 15 multiple-choice knowledge questions where the apprentice will recognise and recall facts and concepts across the knowledge criteria detailed within the standard.

  • 5 scenario-based questions that present a scenario the apprentice could experience within the workplace where the responses wil be in the context of the scenario and their occupation.

  • A two-way 60 minute formal discussion with an independent assessor to confirm the apprentice’s competency across the KSBs mapped to this assessment method. The apprentice will refer to their portfolio of evidence during the discussion.

  • The apprentice will complete a significant and defined piece of work that has a real business benefit and detail this in a 4000 word project report.
