Meet Janet, Disney’s PR and
Communications Apprentice
Below is an extract from an interview with Janet, PR & Communications Assistant for The Walt Disney Company, who has recently completed her Level 4 PR and Communications Apprenticeship with a distinction!
In the words of her mentor, Annabel: Watch this space—this woman is going to go far! 🌟

What do you enjoy about this apprenticeship?
“I love that when I’m in JGA seminars, I’m often able to relate what I’m learning to what I’ve already done at work and vice versa. I already feel like I’ve learnt so much not only in relation to PR and communications, but also the corporate world and working within such a large organisation.”
How has it benefitted your team/workplace?
“There have even been opportunities for me to feedback my learnings and share ideas and concepts within my team. For example, when working on campaigns, I’ve shared alternative marketing planning frameworks that help us with specific campaigns. I’ve also been able to lead team conversations around PR methods that we do and don’t use and how we can adapt to meet wider business goals.”
Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship over university?
“I valued that I’d be getting hands-on experience, learning from, and being mentored by both professionals and colleagues who work within PR as it is today. It’s also a great feeling to already have ‘a foot’ in the door within the industry and be able to progress in my career with a head start.”
You recently lead on the Bon Jovi campaign. Tell me how the apprenticeship supported you in this?
“When working on this campaign, a large proportion of the planning and production processes I implemented were devised from PR and marketing theory that both my tutor and skills coach introduced me to. These theories formed the base for presentations and meetings, but more importantly, allowed me to be prepared and confident to contribute and lead on specific campaign aspects.”
