West London Film & TV Skills & Job Fest 2024

On Monday, 15th July 2024, Wembley BoxPark was buzzing with over 1,500 people attending the West London Film & TV Skills & Jobs Fest. This event brought together aspiring filmmakers, industry experts, and those considering a career change, all eager to learn and network.

What Went On?

Exhibitors and Activities

With over 29 exhibitors, the event was a great place to explore career opportunities. Big names like Sky, Disney, and MBS Equipment had stands, along with specialists like TikTok Academy, Creature Bionics, and Global Academy. Disney’s booth was particularly popular, with long lines of people eager to learn more.

The fest featured four interactive zones with hands-on workshops. These sessions covered various roles in the film and TV industry, from technical jobs like riggers and data wranglers to creative positions such as camera operators and production accountants. One stand, Warpaint were demonstrating their amazing makeup skills:

Panel Discussions

Not only did we have stall holders and interactive session zones, but we also had panels covering various important topics, including equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in film and TV.
These discussions featured a range of perspectives from seasoned professionals, led by corporate filmmaker Chris Skarratt:

  • EDI in Film & TV: With BAFTA winning Director Rochelle Newman, Reema Samuel-Lewis Head of EDI & Partnerships at Sky, and Rubie Charalambous of Brent CEZ.
  • Branding & Marketing in Film: Featuring Brunel University’s film and marketing guru, Dr. Gurdeep Singh Kohli.
  • West London Talent: Showcasing the winners of the West London Film Competition, Max McNamara, Maya V, and Megan O’Connor. They told us about their experience during and after the competition and the change it made to their futures.
  • My Journey into Production: Stories from Director Jasmine Nunes, film makeup professional Pauline Hudson, and Writer/Director Lennina Ofri.
