Apprenticeships for Life – not just National Apprenticeship Week! Alumni Activities
Lisa Hallet, marketing coach, writes,
Our alumni network events are a great example of how The JGA Group continues to support skills development even after apprentices have successfully completed their programme. They are so completely in line with National Apprenticeship Week 2024’s theme of “Skills for life” that perhaps #NAW24 copied us!
We were delighted to welcome 65 apprentices and alumni to our first alumni events in London and Manchester. Created with our Alumni Board, these events are an opportunity for people to meet their peers, celebrate their achievements and continue their learning from expert speakers.
At the Everyman Cinema, Broadgate, storytelling expert Harriet Patience-Davies showed us how to Explain Numbers with Words. She took numbers and created meaningful narrative to support pitches and convince other, a key skill for anyone working in government, marketing, sales and related fields.
In Manchester, Martin Keelagher took attendees on a journey to discover how they can use AI and automation to supercharge their work, discussing what it really means, what’s powering it and giving dos and don’ts to improve ways of working.
The events were a fabulous opportunity to celebrate recent graduations with some fizz and for many apprentices to meet their peers face to face for the first time! Current apprentices were able to meet their more experienced peers, to swap stories and receive reassurance about end point assessment.
Avani, Service Designer apprentice from Pearson Plc (the world’s largest education company) told us
“I really appreciate these events and meeting people in person especially Hari’s presentation as it was incredibly valuable. I’ll definitely be attending the next one! I’ll also try to get some of the other service designers to come along too 😊 have a lovely weekend and hopefully see you again next year for the next networking event!”
The evenings were organised in association with our Alumni Board which was created to harness opportunities to raise the profile and prestige of apprenticeships and to support JGA apprentices and alumni in their career journeys. As part of the programme we’ll be running more alumni events this year.
