Tyrese’s Journey: From Bootcamp to Career Success

Tyrese Nana, a 26-year-old from Northwest London, started his career in security at just 18. While studying at university, he obtained his SIA (Security Industry Authority) badge to help support himself with a part-time job. Over the years, Tyrese gained a wealth of experience working zero-hour contracts with various companies.

Even as an Event Manager at FGH, Tyrese was always looking for ways to grow. Wanting to take on more responsibility and advance his career, he decided to pursue a Level 3 qualification in Spectator Safety.

Why Tyrese Decided to Train

Wanting to ‘step up’ at work, Tyrese decided to take the spectator safety qualification to give him the skills and knowledge to manage bigger teams and handle more responsibility. With the promise of more hours and potential for higher roles once he completed the qualification from his employer, Tyrese knew this would boost his career.

Barriers to Learning

Tyrese had plenty of hands-on experience in security but translating that practical knowledge into written work was a challenge. While he’s confident showing his skills on the job, he found it tricky to explain them on paper. This was the main hurdle Tyrese faced, but he was determined to push through and succeed.

To help Tyrese overcome this barrier, he received plenty of support throughout the course. He had access to a mentor for guidance, plus useful resources such as PowerPoint presentations and slideshows. Weekly team calls on Microsoft Teams, phone check-ins and fast feedback on his work helped Tyrese adjust and improve his responses, making the learning process easier and more effective.

Results and Success

Tyrese’s hard work paid off. Since earning his Level 3 qualification, he has become Operations Manager at Lawmens Security, overseeing daily security operations at major venues and events. The qualification paved the way for even more opportunities, allowing Tyrese to supervise larger teams, take on more responsibilities and continuing to advance in his career.

Reflecting on his experience, Tyrese said:

Gaining my Level 3 has opened up more opportunities for me at work, allowing me to take on bigger roles with greater responsibility. It has increased my knowledge, improved my ability to supervise teams and secured me additional hours. In the future, it will help me progress further my career and expand my opportunities within the industry.

Tyrese’s story highlights the power of perseverance and dedication in achieving career success. Even though writing was a challenge, he didn’t give up and completed the Level 3 qualification in Spectator Safety. The achievement has provided him with valuable skills and helped turn a series of jobs into a career. His journey shows that with the right support and a strong desire to learn, opportunities exist for anyone to progress their work life.
